Smok TCT Review

I have had the Smok TCT for about a week now and have run a few tank fulls through it and thought it was time to let everyone in on my thoughts about this budget friendly tank.

New life in my Kanger Subtank Minis

So as the title says I found a way to squeeze a little more life out of my Kanger Subtank Minis. I was building on the RBA and flavor was good but I had a few flavors that I would never run in the tank due to the fact that I couldn't get anywhere near the flavor out of it when compared to my RDA. I knew this had to do with the coil and not being able to get the heat and some other issues. I just got my first temperature control device and figured I would give the OCC Ni200 coils a shot. I was hoping that being able to set a higher temp on the coil and not over draw it that I could create the heat to get the flavor I was used to on my RDA.

I was pleasantly surprised after placing one of the new coils into my Subtank and using the exact juice I was dripping on that it was almost identical in flavor. With the new bigger mod I had bought some new tanks and figured the Subtanks would just sit on the shelf collecting dust at this point. I bought a single coil and now have a 5 pack on the way so that I can use them in my other Subtank.

Read on for a review of the coil and specs.

Star Wars Drip Tips

Found a set of Star Wars drip tips over the weekend. The Yoda and R2-D2 one didn't look all that great. The Vader, Fett and Stormtrooper ones were pretty sweet though. Instead of trying to decide on just one I went ahead and bought all three. These were at a local B&M store, but I did find them online, not sure if these are the exact same ones I bought but they do look exactly the same and I can't imagine there are that many companies making these (heck these might get pulled because they are probably not licensed).

They fit my Kanger Subtank Minis well and also my Noxus RDA, there is a slight gap as it is a little longer but nothing major or even that noticeable. I have had some issues with cheap drip tips being either too wide or too narrow but there are good so far, I have not tried them all yet. Here is where I found them online and they did have a few here that I did not see in the local store. There appears to be a Sand Trooper and also C-3P0 for sure that I didn't see in the store. They were $1.98 at the time of this post and not a bad deal but then again I am huge Star Wars fan so having them was not that hard of a decision to make. I did snag a quick picture of the ones I picked up so you have an idea of how they look.

Right now I have Boba Fett on my all day vape tank. Who are you going to pick up and use the most if you get one? Are you going to join the dark side or rebel?

Koh Gen Do Cotton Review and Impressions

This is not a paid or sponsored review. This product was purchased by me after my own research. All links may contain referral codes that benefit me monetarily. OK now that I have that out of the way.

It is hard to review cotton because it really comes down to a few factors and whether or not it works or it doesn't so as far as specs and all of that information there isn't much to share but how it looks where I got it and if I liked it. I have added some other information to give the whole story a little feel and flow.

When I bought my Kanger Subox Starter Kit it came with a .5 Ohm OCC coil and 1.5 Ohm OCC coil. It also came with an RBA or Re-Buildable Atomizer. You may also hear them referred to as RTA which is from my understanding a Re-buildable Tank Atomizer. There is also an RDA which is a whole post in and of itself to we'll skip that one for now.

After I had been vaping for a week or so and reading about RBAs and how to make a coil and a wick I figured I would give it a shot. Thankfully the RBA for the Kanger comes with a pre-wound coil so it makes it a little easier to get started, Heck the first one is actually already on the RBA section so all you have to do is wick it up. They also included some cotton to use. Needless to say it took a few tries to get it right so that it was not to tight and not too loose. So here comes the part about the Koh Gen Do that you actually came here for.

I was out of cotton that came with RBA and needed to get some more. I started looking around a lot of vape sites and reddit and anywhere else I could think of. The name Koh Gen Do kept coming up as a high quality brand and seemed to be the most often recommended. Then I started browsing around until I found it. You can save yourself that trouble by just clicking here.

This was an 80 pack which from what I had used and read would last me a long time but for the price compared to some brick and mortar stores I couldn't pass it up. The cotton arrived 2 days later thanks to Amazon Prime and I was on my way to stretching it and wicking my RBA.

The cotton itself is organic and hos not been bleached treated chemically or pigmented according to the label. As with all organic cottons there are some seed and plant remnants in but I have found these do not hurt the wick at all. I have looked at and tried other brands since purchasing the Koh Gen Do just so I had something to compare it to and have found that the Koh Gen Do has less of the seed and such as many other brands. One of the first things I noticed when taking out the first piece of cotton was that it did feel fluffier than some of the others that I had. I know it sounds weird but just holding it your hand you has a sense that it was going to be more absorbent and work better than some of the stuff out there.

When I wick my RBA I stretch the pad first to about double it's original size and then trim the ends since they do seem to be packed too tight and I have noticed using them in a smaller inner diameter can cause issues with wicking. Currently I am getting at least 10-12 wicks out of a single sheet so roughly 800-960 from the 80 pack if I use only my Kanger RBA. On my RDA I get about 7-9 or somewhere in there. Either way it will last a good long while.

When it comes to wicking ability and avoiding dry hits a lot of it has to do with the cotton being fit just right for the coil but when I get a good fit I am unable to draw long enough to dry hit on both my tanks and my RDA. If I have the wattage too high it can still happen but those are all things that can be controlled by you. On a perfect fit and the wattage I like to keep the vape the right temperature and get great flavor I don't have any issues. The cotton holds up very well also, I am only changing the cotton about 4-6 days and sometimes I think that is more than I would need to if I am not changing flavors or vaping too hot (sometimes I forget I changed tanks and leave the wattage way too high). I have not yet seen how long I can go without having to swap the cotton but that will always depend on the juice being used also.

There are a few reviews mentioning that they have heard some where that Koh Gen Do does not make an 80 pack in plastic like this and that the 60 count box is their largest size. At the time of writing this I have not yet ordered the 60 pack to see if there is a difference in the cotton. I have found the 80 pack other places on the web as well and other vape stores so I have every reason to believe it is authentic at this time.

I have since purchased this cotton for a few friends of mine that vape. Please let me know in the comments if there is another brand you would like to see a review on. I am thinking of either purchasing some Muji or Puff brand next as those are two others that I have heard good things about.

Thanks for taking to time to read this and here is the link again for the Koh Gen Do cotton I bought on Amazon.

A little background to get started

The description at the top includes some extra content that I wanted to share here as well.

So after some consideration I decided it was time to quit smoking. I had tried before and even bought some of the cheap cig-a-likes but they never seemed to help. I tried the gum and patches all with no luck. I was talking over a few things with a friend and after our conversation I decided that "I wanna vape". This will be a place to share reviews and thoughts maybe even some tutorials to help other people out there like me.
It took about 2 weeks of compensating with cigarettes but then something cool happened. I bought a pack of smokes on a Monday and still had some left on Friday. I used to be a pack a day smoker. That same Friday I hopped in my truck after lunch and lit a cigarette like I always did. I got it about half done and didn't even want it anymore. I wanted my vape and the flavor I was really enjoying and that was the last cigarette I smoked. That was November 6th, 2015.

It is my hope to make this a great site with videos and good tutorials and reviews of the products I use and hopefully some good conversations that can help others in the same situation I was in.
